Becoming Catholic
Welcome! The path that leads someone to look at becoming Catholic is unique to each individual. At Holy Spirit Parish we follow a process called the RCIA(Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults). The information on this page will help explain this process by answering some basic questions. Please contact Mary Margaret Yaegar, Pastoral Associate or 280-0638x13 for more information.
WHO?
The RCIA process is for adults as well as children older than 9 years.
- Are you unbaptized and interested in learning about the Catholic Faith?
- Were you baptized in another Christian church, but now find yourself seeking better understanding of Catholicism at this time, perhaps because your spouse is Catholic and you are seeking a greater family unity through a shared faith or because you desire a community with whom you can share your life questions and beliefs?
- Were you baptized catholic but never had the opportunity to celebrate your 1st Communion and Confirmation?
WHAT?
The RCIA is the process by which men and women become members of the Catholic Church. It is an ongoing process; there is no formal start time. Interested individuals begin whenever they make contact with the RCIA coordinator.
HOW?
The process takes place within the context of the parish community and after a suitable period of formation, determined by the coordinator and the individual, culminates in reception into the Catholic Church. The formation includes several areas:
- Scripture: the Word of God; the stories of God's people; the life and mission of Jesus Christ
- Teaching: what Catholics believe
- Prayer: how we communicate with God
- Liturgy: how the community worships
- Mission: how we live out what we believe.
When?
Currently the RCIA group meets on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Thursday of the month from 7:00-8:00 pm.
Where?
In the Emmaus Room which is found within the parish office area in the SE corner.
