The Social Justice Commission is to be a catalyst for action on behalf of justice and thus foster a caring community that would respectfully address and act upon the social injustices of our parish, local, and global communities. Holy Spirit parishioners participate in a wide range of outreach ministries that serve the poor and vulnerable here at home and abroad. The role of the Social Justice Commission, using Catholic Social Teaching as our guide, is to provide opportunities for parishioners to learn about broader social issues that affect the poor and vulnerable people that we serve, as well to provide education about opportunities we have as Catholics and as citizens to act to address social injustices.

Social Justice Actions
Since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the issue of racism has been front and center in our country. We have been examining a very old problem with a new intensity. At Holy Spirit, we’ve had two study groups on racial justice and a Lenten book read.
We invite parishioners to share what steps you feel our parish community might take to express our stand against racism. Please email [email protected] with any ideas or suggestions for specific actions we might take.
All parishioners are invited to consider ways to build a more hopeful, just, and peaceful world through reading and thoughtful consideration of Pope Francis’s new encyclical:
“Frattelli Tutti” Fraternity and Social Friendship.
This builds on a theme throughout Pope Francis’s papacy:
“It is my desire that, in this our time, by acknowledging the dignity of each human person, we can contribute to the rebirth of a universal aspiration to fraternity. Brotherhood between all men and women” (no. 8).
The work of Holy Spirit’s Social Justice Commission is guided by the Key Themes of Catholic Social Teaching. To learn more about each of these key themes of CST, we invite you to read about them on the United States Council of Catholic Bishop’s website:
